Don’t talk, just act – plant trees: That’s the motto of the children from Plant-for-the-Planet. The Ulm company pervormance international with managing director Gabi Renner has therefore made the promise of March 9, 2018 in Monaco with Prince Albert II and Felix Finkbeiner come true and realized the donation of 5,500 trees in Ulm with partners. On Friday, June 8th, the climate initiative “Ulm plants trees” will be presented as part of the opening of Climate Protection Day by Mayor Gunther Czisch at 12 p.m. on Hans-und-Sophie-Scholl-Platz.
Stop the climate crisis
In addition to pervormance international, partners from the very beginning include the Ulm companies Trivis and the Volksbank Ulm-Biberach, the unw (Ulmer Initiativkreis Sustainable Economic Development e.V.), which took up and organized the initiative, and of course the city of Ulm with the local agenda Ulm 21. Everyone together has already pledged 5,500 trees. The Ulm basketball players from ratiopharm ulm also support the climate initiative. Team captain Per Günther will sign Plant-for-the-Planet’s “Trillion Tree Declaration” together with the other partners on Friday. The 11-year-old climate ambassador Ronja Stein from Plant-for-the-Planet will also be there, explain the Trillion Tree campaign and, together with the initiators, plant the first tree for it in Ulm. It all started in 2009 with a school presentation by the then 9-year-old Felix Finkbeiner – today Plant-for-the-Planet is a global children’s and youth organization that has already planted 15 billion trees around the world with 67,000 children Stop the climate crisis.
Celebrity support
On May 22, 2018, Felix became the youngest recipient to date to receive the Federal Cross of Merit from Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Environmental politicians such as Professor Klaus Töpfer and many scientists such as Professor Franz Josef Radermacher from Ulm as well as celebrities such as Harrison Ford or Gisele Bündchen, Til Schweiger or Peter Maffay support the organization. March 9th was the opening event of the “Trillion Tree Campaign” in Monaco, which aims to plant 1,000 billion trees worldwide in order to still meet the 2° limit. According to climate experts, this number is at least necessary to significantly slow down or stop the earth’s overheating so that our children can still live in a world like the one we love. “The best time to plant a tree was thirty years ago. The second best is now,” says Professor Klaus Töpfer.
The average CO2 emissions of a German are 12 tons per year. To compensate for this, 24 additional trees are necessary. Because every tree that Plant-for-the-Planet plants in Yucatán, Mexico, for example, binds 500 kg of CO2 over the course of its life.
Ulm tree counter
The homepage of www.ulm-pflanzent- Bäume.de provides further information and shows how everyone can easily join in or even become climate neutral. All trees from the climate initiative are added up in the common Ulm tree counter, which then flows back into Plant-for-the-Planet’s Trillion Tree tree counter. Everyone who takes part is part of the global campaign to realize the largest reforestation project in human history.
